We wrapped up weekend one of our new Earth Tribe program. Our Scouts and their adult leaders are committed to making an impact on their community and environment. This weekend, they engaged in five hours of conservation service, which included participating in the International Coastal Cleanup with our friends at Keep Golden Isles Beautiful. Our Scouts quickly learned how disgusting it is cleaning up other people’s trash, and will likely take those lessons back home to their own units.

Additionally, the Earth Tribe group has adopted one of the campsites at our coastal Camp Tolochee to make the permanent home for our program. Along with the campsite, the Scouts will be heading up over 20 different conservation and education projects at Camp Tolochee that will allow Scouts BSA and Cub Scouts to work on merit badges and adventures after the projects are completed.

Scouts were also given time to be a bit creative. They were introduced to nature journaling and making plastic top mosaics on canvas.

Thank you to all the leaders who gave their time this weekend, all the youth who signed up for the program, our ranger staff, and various friends who contributed items and support to making this program possible. We’re looking forward to another fantastic weekend in November.

Special thanks to the following who made this weekend possible:

  • Keep Golden Isles Beautiful
  • Guy Harvey Foundation and EarthMark
  • Thrivent
